Tongeren spirits

Haspengouw has a rich tradition of distillers, of which Hasselt jenever is of course the best known. Lovers of a relaxing drink or summer cocktail will not go thirsty in Tongeren either.

Caesaar’ke brandy

Tongeren Tourist Office launched its own brandy: Caesaar'ke. Artisanal distillery De Korhaan distils this refreshing, easily digestible drink with barley malt and rye. And yes, the name does refer to the commander/emperor who called us the bravest of the Gauls.

You can only buy this 'Tongers witteke' at Tongeren Tourist Office.

Not a fan of spirits? Caesaar'ke is also ideal in long drinks. Tongeren cocktail specialists Jeroen Jannes and Thibault Bunkens came up with the Julius Collins, a summer drink based on Caesaar'ke.

This is how you shake this vintage classic with a twist. Place the following ingredients in a shaker:

  • 6 cl Caesaar’ke
  • 3 cl fresh lemon juice
  • 1.5 cl watercress syrup
  • Half a teaspoon of Rhubarb Bitters
  • A handful of ice cubes

Shake all the ingredients vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain the drink into a long-drinks glass filled with ice cubes. Top up with soda or a premium tonic. Garnish with a slice of dried lemon and a small sprig of watercress. Sôté!*

 Tongeren gin

AMBIORIXGIN is the 'first gin of the first city', spiced with an original palette of Gallic herbs: mugwort, blue fenugreek, nettle, wild garlic and lovage. These are all herbs that were already found in our region 2,000 years ago. This tribute to the Eburonean king is as fresh and refined as it is strong. An invincible combination!

The AMBIORIXMAS is a festive, limited edition gin with a touch of cranberry to celebrate the end of the year in style.

The gins are ideal for those who enjoy a drink from time to time, but are just as good for flavouring a gin tonic or other long drink.

Ruttermolen advocaat

Advocaat is a delicacy made from eggs and alcohol. B&B De Ruttermolen makes its advocaat in the traditional way, literally, according to a well-kept family recipe. Ideal with a dollop of cream, with coffee or on ice cream or cakes.
